Experienced Skokie, IL Dentist
Meet Dr. Deborah Barker
Dr. Barker brings a great deal of experience, knowledge and caring to her practice of dentistry. With over two decades of experience, Dr. Barker has worked to build long-lasting patient relationships based on trust, honesty and quality care. She believes in a compassionate approach to dentistry, taking the time to get to know each patient and tailor treatment to the patient’s individual needs. Her philosophy is to treat each person with the same care and concern she would give to her own family. In her many years practicing dentistry, this approach has put many patients at ease and made her a trusted dentist.
Why I Became a Dentist
Dr. Barker’s childhood passions were science and music. Always singing in choir and in high school concerts and musicals, she decided to pursue music at the collegiate level. Having been accepted to Northwestern University School of Music with voice as her instrument, she embarked on a rigorous study of voice and music theory. As she progressed through her training, she realized that a profession in music was not her calling. After working in her local community, she decided that a helping profession that combined her love of science and artistry would be her path; dentistry was the perfect blend.
My Educational Background
Dr. Barker earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music and Doctorate of Dental Surgery degrees from Northwestern University. There she was one of only two students to earn the prestigious honor of early graduation. She then completed a General Practice Residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, where she was trained in the management of medically compromised patients. She has vigorously continued her studies over the years, most recently finishing training in the use of Botox to treat the symptoms of grinding.
My Life Outside the Dental Office
When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Barker is active in her role as a Board Member of Northwestern University Hillel. She enjoys taking adult ballet classes, traveling (especially to Europe and Canada), and all these years later she still enjoys singing soprano with a community choir! Dr. Barker resides with her husband and three children in Northbrook.
